The 1952 Topps set is the most celebrated post-war baseball card issue ever produced, and the Willie Mays #261 stands among its most important cards. Issued the year after Mays captured the 1951 N.L. Rookie of the Year award and helped the New York Giants to their pennant, this is "The Say Hey Kid's" first Topps card and a cornerstone of any serious vintage collection.

The card displays the set's iconic oversized design, with a vivid hand-tinted portrait of a young Mays in his Giants cap set against a deep blue background, along with the team logo and facsimile autograph in the lower nameplate. The reverse retains its red biography panel, noting Mays' entry into the Army in May 1952, along with full statistical lines. PSA has graded the example GOOD 2 (Cert. #174090058). Despite the corner and edge wear expected at the grade, the card presents with strong eye appeal, displaying vibrant color, a clean, bold portrait, and respectable centering for the issue.

Mays went on to compile one of the most complete careers in baseball history: 660 home runs, 12 Gold Gloves, two N.L. MVP awards, 24 All-Star selections, and a 1954 World Series championship highlighted by "The Catch." He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979 and is regarded by many as the greatest all-around player the game has ever seen.

An attractive, affordable example of one of the hobby's true blue-chip vintage cards.
