The 1952 MLB season was the 50th season for the Yankees in New York and their 52nd overall going back to their origins in Baltimore. The team finished with a record of 95-59 winning their 19th American League pennant finishing two games ahead of the Cleveland Indians. They went on to defeat the Brooklyn Dodgers in seven games in the World Series their fourth straight championship season. That year each of the 38 Yankee team members manager Casey Stengel and three coaches (Bill Dickey Jim Turner and Frank Crosetti) received a championship wristwatch. This lot includes one of those watches. The "Wittnauer" brand timepiece features an understated art deco face but the back of the watch provides the true appeal. "New York Yankees 1952" joins a bat and hat logo at center while perimeter is engraved "World Champions ECS." The identity of the owner whose monogram appears has been lost to history. A quick wind sets the ticking in motion but we aren't certain how well the watch keeps time. Fine condition with only minor handling wear.
