There was no more exciting moment in American sports than the Game 3 bottom of the 9th Bobby Thomson home run that won the 1951 pennant for the New York Giants. That homer was the culmination of one of the greatest team comebacks ever staged in baseball. After a mediocre first half the Giants won 50 of their last 62 games to end the season in a tie with the Dodgers. It’s since been proven that the Giants installed a novel system in the Polo Grounds where opposing signs were spotted by a coach with a telescope in the Giants centerfield clubhouse and electronically transmitted to the dugout with a buzzer but whatever the cause for their success the Giants forced a 3-game playoff that came down to the bottom of the ninth in Game 3. Leading 4-1 Al Dark led off with a single followed by another by Don Mueller. Monte Irvin popped out and Dark scored on a double by Whitey Lockman. Now with the score 4-2 and runners on 2nd and 3rd Ralph Branca was brought in for Brooklyn. Bobby Thomson and Willie Mays were due up. In Game 1 Thomson had hit a homer off Branca and in one of the most dramatic moments in baseball history he did it again setting off those famous words "The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant!"

All key participants from the 9th inning “Shot Heard ‘Round The World” are on this ball--Dark Mueller (CH) Irvin Lockman and Thomson--along with Hank Thompson aces Sal Maglie and Larry Jansen and a young 20-year-old rookie by the name of Willie Mays. The ball is a Spalding Official National League (Ford C. Frick) ball and shows just slight toning from age. The players have signed in sharp 6-8/10 ranging blue ink which remains quite bold for most. Besides the fact that this ball collects one of the most exciting teams in the history of the game it is significant in that it also boasts the rookie year signature of Willie Mays at the very start of a career that would see him become the most complete ballplayer of all-time. Mueller and Dave Williams have been deemed Clubhouse signed and Durocher on the sweet spot is a stamp. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
