It might not be too much of a stretch to say they don't make em like this anymore. This 3-inch in diameter sterling silver compact case was presumably given to wives girlfriends and dignitaries to commemorate the Yankees' World Series triumph over the Philadelphia Phillies in four games in 1950 the second of what would be a record five consecutive world championships in a row for the Bronx Bombers. At the center of the top of the compact is a gold Yankees logo sculpture 1-inch in diameter with four stones each in red blue and clear signifying the stripes on the iconic Yankees top hat. Encircling the raised sculpture are the words "World Champions 1950" engraved in delicate all-caps. The compact appears to be in excellent condition betraying only light traces of the expected tarnish that sterling silver would yield after more than six decades and a couple of small barely noticeable dings on the back; the two mirror-like surfaces inside are in even better condition showing only traces of whatever the powder was that the ladies were taken to in 1950 or thereabouts. Clasp that closes the compact is in working order as well. Wonderful bit of Yankee dynasty memorabilia that neatly showcases some of the postwar niceties of the distaff side.
