Rawlings Collegiate white football signed in matching 8-10/10 dark black ink by 36 members of the 1949 NFL World Champion Philadelphia Eagles. Players and coaches are: Neill Armstrong Chuck Bednarik(HOF) Russ Craft Otis Douglas Jack Ferrante Mario Giannelli Dick Humbert Mike Jarmoluk Bunko Kilroy Ben Kish Vic Lindskog Jay MacDowell Bill Mackrides John Magee Duke Maronic Pat McHugh Joe Muha Jack Meyers Jim Parmer Cliff Patton Pete Pihos(HOF) Bosh Pritchard Frank Reagan George Savitsky Clyde Scott Vic Sears Leo Skladany Tommy Thompson Steve Van Buren(HOF) Al Wistert Alex Wojciechowicz(HOF) Frank Ziegler(2) Greasy Neale(HOF) John Kellison Larry Cabrelli and Fred Schubank(?).

The 1949 NFL Championship Game was played December 18 1949 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and featured the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles who finished 11-1 to win the Eastern Conference and the Los Angeles Rams winners of the Western Conference at 8-2-2. This would be the first NFL Championship Game held in Los Angeles as the Rams had moved there in 1946 from Cleveland where they last played for the title. The 1948 game in Philadelphia was held in a heavy blizzard and ended 7-0. Playing in Los Angeles one would figure the weather had to be better. Well the 1949 title game was held in a driving pouring rain that virtually changed the playing field into one large mud pit. Only about 27000 brave fans attended the game in the 100000 plus seat coliseum. The result was another low scoring affair with Philadelphia taking their 2nd straight NFL World Championship 14-0 on a Tommy Thompson 31 yard pass to Pete Pihos in the 2nd quarter and a Phil Skladany 2 yard block punt return in the 3rd.

Interesting note - Greasy Neale the Eagles Head Coach and one of 5 Hall of Famers to sign the ball actually played Major League Baseball for several years. He was the Cincinnati Reds right fielder and leading batter during the controversial 1919 World Series against the Chicago White Sox who had 8 players banned from baseball for throwing the Series.

Awesome looking vintage signed NFL Championship ball!
