Harry Truman was able to not only take Franklin Roosevelt’s place as president after his untimely death in 1945, but successfully win the office for himself in the 1948 election. Truman’s time in office saw him presiding over the post-war economic boom as well as America taking its place as the most powerful nation in the world. And while the World War had ended, the late 1940s brought a more serious “cold war” that pitted the Western nations of Great Britain, France, and the United States against the Soviet Union and her allies. Neutral countries located in strategic areas between the Western and Soviet rivals became increasingly important and none were more so than Turkey. This signed document appoints the United States Ambassador to Turkey in 1949. Truman has signed the appointment in crisp fountain pen. The piece has been matted along with a print of a painted portrait of Tuman with an engraved plaque that lists the 33rd president’s lifetime achievements. The complete framed display measures 29.5” x 44” and comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA.
