This lot features a trio of team-signed baseballs dating to the middle of last century. The first one is a 1948 New York Yankees team-signed American League (Harridge) baseball that includes 24 scrawls including unfortunately a clubhouse signature of Joe DiMaggio on the sweet spot. Notable signatures on the slightly shellacked baseball include the late Yogi Berra (with his rare first name "Larry") Phil Rizzuto (HOF) Bobby Brown Allie Reynolds Vic Raschi Tom Henrich Tommy Byrne Eddie Lopat Charlie Keller others. The Yankees finished third in the A.L. that season with a record of 94-60. The ball has a small hole at the OAL label stamp.
The second baseball represents a team-signed effort from the 1949 Pittsburgh Pirates. The official N.L. (Frick) baseball sports 23 signatures including Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner gracing the sweet spot. Also shellacked for safe-preservation the baseball includes these other notable signatures: Wally Westlake Cliff Chambers Monty Basgall Danny Murtaugh Hugh Casey Rip Sewell Ray Poat Dixie Walker Ed Stevens Murry Dickson and more.
The third and final Official AO Leauge (Dowd) baseball commemorates the 1950 Washington Senators with southpaw Bob Kuzawa (8-7 with a team-leading 87 K’s) gracing the sweet spot. Other notable signatures on the shellacked ball include Eddie Yost Sam Dente Al Evans Cass Michaels Merl Combs Steve Nagy Al Evans Johnny Ostrowski Sam Mele Bob Ross Mickey Grasso and other.
