Few ballplayers can lay claim to autograph mania that might challenge a U.S. President but Babe Ruth certainly could. The Bambino didn't sign this handsome 11-by-14-inch black-and-white photo but former U.S. President George H.W. Bush did planting a handsome black signature that jumps out nicely on a stark white background. The image shows an ailing Babe Ruth presenting an award to Yale baseball captain Bush at a ceremony at the Yale ballfield in a photo taken a few months before Ruth's passing in 1948.. The piece originated from the famed Barry Halper Collection. Consignor has paperwork from that 2000 Sotheby's sale.
