Rarely seen piece of Exhibit card history originating from the archives of the Chicago-based Exhibit Supply Company. This eight card proof sheet from the 1948-49 Exhibit Sports Champions issue features Basketball Hall of Famer George Mikan along with other prominent athletes of the time. The 18" x 14" proof sheet is printed on thinner paper stock and provides insight on the process used to check card layout and artwork prior to the actual final card production. An incredible group of players complete this sheet including Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Sammy Baugh tennis legend Bobby Riggs Heisman Trophy winner John Lujack professional and trick bowler Andy Varipapa Canadian Football Hall of Fame charter member Jack Jacobs Hockey Hall of Fame brothers Doug and Max Bentley and Sheboygan Red Skins basketball star Bob Cook. Very little information is available in terms of the number of Mikan proof sheets that are presently in existence. Information provided to the owner in 2011 indicated that many of the proof sheets in the archive were either one-of-a-kind items or at most totaled less than a hand full including any variations. One thing is certain. For the serious George Mikan collector it doesn't get much better than this.
