1947 "Homogenized" Bond Bread (D305 or W571 series) features 44 different baseball players highlighted by marquis Hall of Famers Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Phil Rizzuto, Yogi Berra, Stan Musial, and the coveted "true" rookie of Jackie Robinson. The black-and-white cards (2.5” by 3.5”) were issued with rounded corners and blank backs coming in select store-bought bags of Bond Bread in the late 1940's.
This mid-grade #41 Jackie Robinson has been graded BVG EX+ 5.5 and has a unique feature not found on most examples. The bottom right corner is not rounded, almost square and angular, making it seem like an error or rare imperfection sought after by collectors. The sharp and smooth condition of the cardboard is deserving of a higher grade, held back primarily by the spottiness of Jackie's portrait image. Graded copies rarely pop up, and this is the finest example we've ever auctioned.
