Ellis Kinder was a major league pitcher from 1946 to 1957 who compiled an overall record of 102-71 with an ERA of 3.43 and a total of 749 strikeouts. He began his MLB career in '46 as a member of the St. Louis Browns where the right-hander posted 11 wins over his first two seasons. He played his next seven seasons for the Boston Red Sox where he won 23 games in 1949 and finished fifth in the A.L. MVP balloting. Then in 1951 the Red Sox were desperate for a relief pitcher and moved him to the pen where he shined as the best reliever in the AL until 1955.

This lot features Kinder's 1946 St. Louis Browns game-worn road jersey from his rookie season. The zipper-down gray flannel jersey reads "BROWNS" across the front in orange felt letters outlined with a brown felt drop-shadow. The Rawlings jersey includes the proper manufacturer's tag on the inside rear collar next to a dry cleaning tag and a size "44" tag. On the front left tail is "Kinder" spelled in brown script chain-stitching above the year call-out "46." The Browns' trademark orange-and-brown piping runs the length of the front of the jersey and wraps around the collar as well as appears on either sleeve. The back of the jersey which includes a multitude of team repairs and some staining also features several rips near the shoulders and collars. His uniform number "21" adorns the back of the jersey in orange felt numbers outlined with a brown felt drop-shadow. Some noticeable staining appears on the right rear sleeve most likely due to the orange felt numbers.
