This ball carries the signatures of a 1946 Boston Red Sox team that did something special and extremely rare between 1918 and 1967 and that was win the American League pennant. Back from the war Ted Williams returned to the Red Sox to win the league MVP and make it to the Fall Classic for his first and only time. Unfortunately the Red Sox fell to the St. Louis Cardinals in a gut-wrenching 7-game series as "The Splendid Splinter" could only muster 5 hits in 25 at bats. Williams refused to make excuses for a sore elbow or the "Williams Shift" installed by the Cardinals infield.
There are 32 autographs in all including Ted Williams Bobby Doerr Johnny Pesky and manager Joe Cronin all signed in blue averaging 7-8/10 ink. The OAL (Harridge) baseball is in excellent condition with little to no toning. The consignor is former Kansas City Royals 1B coach Tom Gamboa who says the ball has been in his family's possession since before he was born.
