Bill Rigney was a versatile infielder who platooned at third base shortstop second base and first base for the New York Giants from 1946 to 1953. A career .259 batter he hit 41 home runs and drove in 212 runs. This springboarded a long managerial career with the NY/SF Giants LA/California Angels and Minnesota Twins that finally came to an end in 1976. This lot features a game used bat that Rigney swung for the Giants between 1946 and 1949. The mahogany Hillerich & Bradsby Louisville Slugger which measures 34" inches long and weighs 35.5 ounces has “Bill Rigney” stamped on the barrel in cursive and shows plenty of bat rack marks and ball impressions throughout. The knob end has a small pinhole that was used for display purposes.
Includes LOA from the family of a former dentist for the St. Louis Cardinals who received the bat as a gift.
