1945-1946 Caramelo Deportivo album containing a near set of 99 out of a possible 100 cards all mounted at their assigned spots. Issued by Caramelo Deportivo (Sporting Caramels) confectioner the set features players from the 5 teams involved in the 1945-46 Cuban Winter League season - Habana Almendares Marianao and Cienfuegos. The cover features a baseball design with pennants of all 5 team. Inside are places to glue in the clear black and white player photos as well as those of umpires color team pennants etc. Cards measure about 1-7/8" by 2-5/8". Below each subject is a brief baseball biography. Several Major League players as well as a number of Negro League stars are featured in the issue. Key cards included in the set are: #8 Armando Marsans 25 Ray Dandridge 27 Minnie Minoso 30 Raymond Brown 55 Adolfo Luque 64 Sal Maglie 65 Martin Dihigo and 66 Luis Tiant Sr. On the next to last page are listed every Cuban Winter League Champion manager and leading batter from 1878/79 through 1944/45. Album itself in decent G-VG overall condition with the cards glued onto the pages ranging in condition from F to EX-MT. The center page has come loose. Set is missing only #73 Napoleon Reyes for completion. (The missing Reyes card is generally considered by many to not be a part of the set. It was never issued to the public and was available only to those who collected all 99 different cards pasted them into the album and then took the album to the factory which produced the issue. There a representative of the company would paste the missing #73 Reyes card directly into the album for them) Thin cardboard cover 16 page album measures about 8" by 11". Great eye appeal for the condition with several very high demand Negro League stars from their playing days.
