The 1944 World Series was interesting for several reasons but the most notable was that it was the hapless St. Louis Browns' only appearance in the Fall Classic. What made it all the more significant is that they faced their hometown rivals the St. Louis Cardinals. What’s more both teams would share their home park Sportsman’s Park for all postseason games. The Cardinals prevailed as expected but the Brownies gave the Redbirds a real run for their money dragging the series out to six hard-fought games.
This tremendous lot from collection of the Cards' unofficial team dentist includes a pair of adjoining reserved lower stand ticket stubs from each of the Series’ six games. While all exhibit the same design the colors are switched to reflect which team was representing the “home” club in each particular game: red and blue for the Cards and gold/orange and brown for the Brownies. The stubs each have the torn perforated edges toning and edge wear from age with the respective colors still bright. The backs of the stubs have the residue of adhesive tape. The deciding Game 6 stubs have the letter “X” in place of the game number. Overall these stubs range from GD to VG-EX shape.
Accompanying this group are both programs issued for the series one representing the Cardinals and the other for the Browns. The pair come in VG-EX/EX condition with some edge wear and scuffs. The Browns version has a small tear on the left front edge and both have tape residue on the back cover. A very complete grouping that represents the St. Louis Browns lone pennant and World Series appearance.
Includes LOA from the family of the St. Louis Cardinals' dentist in the 1940's and 50's.
