In 1941 Ted Williams established himself as quite possibly the greatest pure hitter of the modern era. At times overshadowed in the media by Joe DiMaggio's celebrated 56-game hitting streak Williams steadily flirted with .400 for the entire 1941 season. Going into the final day a doubleheader in Philadelphia his average rested at .39955. Although it was anticipated Williams might sit out the doubleheader rather than risk a poor performance the "Splendid Splinter" played the twin bill and racked up six hits lifting his average to the mind-boggling .406. Presented here is an extraordinary signed item from that phenomenal 1941 season a 1941 Team-Signed Half Bat. The 34 1/2-inch bat is a Louisville Slugger Lou Finney model bat seemingly game-used and made into a half bat expressly for the purpose of being autographed.
