After six consecutive losing seasons in 1939 the Brooklyn Dodgers brass handed the reigns to 33-year-old player-manager Leo Durocherwho promptly guided the club to 84 wins and a third-place finish. Durochers creamy white 1939 flannel home jersey is lettered "Dodgers" across the front in classic script style and features the number "2" on the reverse. All letters and numbers are in blue felt. "L. Durocher" is chain-stitched in black in the collar. Both a "Spalding" label and "42" size flag tag are also situated in the collar below the name as is an additional Dry Clean Only tag. The year designation "39" appears in the back tail in red chain stitch. The matching flannel pants feature similar "Spalding" label and "40" size flag tag and Dry Clean Only tagging in the rear of the waistband. Both of the uniform components are original and unaltered displaying very light game wear. There is no evidence of a 1939 Centennial sleeve patch having ever been affixed to the left sleeve. The accompanying MEARS LOA shows a 1939 photograph of Durocher in his Dodgers home uniform without a patch. This is a scarce flannel uniform of this Hall of Fame stalwart in superb Near Mint condition. Includes a comprehensive LOA from MEARS with an overall grade of A8. The two point deduction was only a result of minimal usage wear as the uniform is structurally flawless.
