This vintage Bill Robinson Portage la Prairie Terriers game worn wool jersey was originally sourced along with his Portage la Prairie Terriers Team Jacket in Western Canada in 2009. They were obtained from a collector who purchased these items directly from the Robinson estate after he passed away in the summer of 2008.

This green and cream wool gamer was worn by Bill Robinson during the 1939-40 MJHL season. Robinson is an honored member of the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame. This adept goal scorer spent about 20 years honing his craft dating back to his time spent in Junior’s with Portage in the late 1930’s thru the 1940’s and 50’s where he played for the Winnipeg Rangers in the early 1940’s and also later spent time with the New York Rovers Quebec Aces Seattle Ironmen had a 6-year stint with the Ottawa Senators and finished things up with the Seattle Americans and Harringay Racers. Robinson won the Memorial Cup with Winnipeg in 1941 and the Allan Cup with the Quebec Aces in 1944. Robinson was a 2-time 1st Team All Star selection for the Ottawa Senators. After his playing career was over he became a successful coach and later in 1972 became the first director of player development for the WHA’s Winnipeg Jets.

Robinson spent just a single season 1939-40 with the MJHL’s Portage Terriers. During this time with Portage la Prairie Bill wore the player #9. Robinson’s team jacket which was acquired from his estate along with the jersey (not included in this auction) had the year 39-40 on the Terriers crest adding to the provenance of this important jersey. Portage existed for merely 6 seasons in the MJHL spanning 1937-43. The condition of this 75+-year-old sweater is quite simply fabulous with no moth holes having been impeccably preserved by the family. There are more than a dozen team-sewn repairs scattered about the collar body and sleeves along with a few small un-repaired holes. The cream colored felt player #9 adorns the verso and is in flawless condition. Not to be outdone is the stunning and flawless green and cream-colored felt Portage Terriers crest. A spectacularly preserved 75+-year old wool that was worn by this Manitoba Hockey Hall of Famer choice!
