The 1938 New York Yankees managed by Joe McCarthy won the American League pennant after posting a regular season record of 99-53 finishing 9.5 games ahead of the runner-up Boston Red Sox. They then swept the Chicago Cubs in the World Series in four straight games. This lot include a partial team-signed official American League (Harridge) Reach baseball from that years squad. Notable signatures in black ink on the baseball include Joe Gordon Red Rolfe Bill Knickerbocker Tom Heinrich and Johnny Murphy. The signatures on the slightly shellacked baseball appear to be faded and the Hall of Famers Lou Gehrig Joe DiMaggio Bill Dickey and Lefty Gomez signatures are actually of a clubhouse variety.
