The 1936 Yankees were the very beginning of what would be the greatest dynasty in baseball history. For the next four years this Yankees club would be unstoppable winning the pennant by a wide margin each summer and then claiming the World Championship for four consecutive years - the last two by a four game sweep. The 1936 Yankees was a completely re-vamped team from the one that swept the Cubs in the 1932 Series. While that team had been the last gasp of the old Murderer’s Row crew headlined by Babe Ruth and Earle Combs the Yanks of four years later with the exception of Lou Gehrig and Bill Dickey were team of young hungry kids looking to make a name for themselves. The key to the Yankees revival was a shy rookie from San Francisco named Joe DiMaggio and a self-depreciating fireballer called Lefty Gomez. The new-look Bronx Bombers commenced to destroy the competition finishing 19 1/2 games in front of second place Detroit. The Yanks then disposed of their cross town rivals the New York Giants in the World Series 4 games to 2.

This Spalding Babe Ruth Home Run Special ball collects twenty-three (23) of the World Champion Yankees including Hall of Famers Lou Gehrig (SS) Joe DiMaggio (R) Bill Dickey Tony Lazzeri Red Ruffing and Lefty Gomez plus George Selkirk Joe Beggs Red Rolfe Monte Pearson Joe Glenn Bump Hadley Frank Crosetti Jack Saltzgaver Myril Hoag Johnny Murphy Pat Malone Don Heffner Art Jorgens John Broaca Roy Johnson and Ted Kleinhans. The ball has a light coat of shellac which has given the leather a golden brown tone. All signatures come in black steel-tip fountain pen that range mostly 4-6/10. Gehrig on he sweet spot is one of the better autographs and rates 5-6 in our book. An outstanding ball collecting the first installment of the greatest baseball dynasty of all-time.
