This photo was titled, “Yanks Firing Squad!” by the Associated Press with good reason. In the ’36 season in which this photo was snapped, the seven players depicted hit a combined 154 home runs and drove in 729. Pictured are Joe DiMaggio, Frank Crosetti, Tony Lazzeri, Bill Dickey, Lou Gehrig, Jake Powell, and George Selkirk – four of whom have plaques hanging in the Hall of Fame. Powered by such a lineup, the Yankees were not only able to reclaim their first pennant since 1932 but go on to win the World Series four consecutive seasons. With good reason, some historians judge the 1936-39 Yankees the greatest dynasty in baseball history. The front of this Type I original photo shows overall toning from age with some rippling present. The corners are soft and show some rounding and there are surface scuffs and creases throughout. The back has the Associated Press caption slug affixed along with the “09/23/1936” date stamp. The 7x9 photo has been authenticated and encapsulated Type I by PSA/DNA.
