Rare original wire photo of Joe DiMaggio from his phenomenal 1936 rookie season presented here. The photograph features a 21-year-old DiMaggio in his Yankees cap and gray road flannel jersey with "Associated Press Photos" and "Filed Sep 15 1936" stamped on the verso. Also on the back is "Joe DiMaggio" and "Baseball" handwritten in black ink. All young Joe did in his debut season with the Bronx Bombers is bat .323 with 29 HR 125 RBI 132 runs scored and a league-leading 15 triples. The 5" by 7" photo comes in EX condition with evidence tracing the outline of Joe's face for newspaper distribution. There is a very small tear on the center left edge and some brown paper remnants on the reverse.

The resemblance of this shot to the image used for his 1936 World Wide Gum rookie card is uncanny from Joe's stoic facial expression to the positioning of his Yankees cap on his head. The only major difference is he's wearing his road jersey in this one. It's as if both head shots were taken the same day as part of a media photoshoot for the team.

Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA (1P11027).
