At the first European Athletics Championships ever to be held on September 7-9, 1934 in Turin, Italy, Luz Long from Germany took the bronze in the Men’s Long Jump with a leap of 7.25 meters. He was awarded this third place winner’s medal (made of 80% silver) for his efforts. He also received a smaller commemorative participation medal. Both medals are designed with a loop at the top.
