Pitting the best players from the American League and National League against each other The All-Star Game made its debut on July 6 1933 at Chicago's Comiskey Park. Arch Ward a sports editor for the Chicago Tribune thought of the idea for the game as a draw to coincide with the celebration of Chicago's Century of Progress Exposition. While the game featured numerous future Hall of Famers of course it was Babe Ruth's star that shone brightest. True to form Ruth thrilled the fans as he blasted a home run that proved to be the difference in the AL's 4-2 victory.

That same summer in the midst of The Great Depression Babe Ruth helped out another all-star team of sorts as part of the Goudey Co.’s Sport Kings set among the first trading card issues with gum included in the packs. The groundbreaking series featured an eclectic mix of 48 star athletes from a dozen different sports headlined by of course baseball. Rendered in stunning colorful lithography the Sport Kings set is a masterful pictorial summary of the Golden Age of Sports. An ideal summation of this immortal gallery of elite cards is featured on the impossibly rare 24-card uncut final production sheet presented here. This 1933 Goudey Sport Kings uncut sheet features an incomparable lineup of stars including the set's first entry Ty Cobb in perfect pack fresh condition. Numbers 1-24 are arranged in a random sequence and feature a who’s who lineup of the era’s most prolific athletes highlighted by Red Grange Walter Hagen Nat Holman Duke Kahanamoku Howie Morenz Babe Ruth Gene Sarazen Jim Thorpe Bill Tilden Gene Tunney and Johnny Weissmuller. Remarkably the sheet’s current state of preservation stands defiantly brilliant against the odds of potential handling and exposure to natural elements over the last 85 years. The interior eight cards of Holman Cobb Dempsey Walthour Tilden Blood Lekang and Thorpe are virtually untouched by time. The far right border shows mild paper loss on the obverse of three cards Jewtraw Tunney and Londos with Morenz and Richards showing minor toning in the lower left corner. Minute chipping along the right hand edge on the reverse and a 1-inch portion of paper loss on #5 Wachter are the notable blemishes on the back of this incredible relic. The original colors are bright shared borders are crisply white and the cards possess an ageless appearance without the benefit or need of professional restoration. The overall display quality is simply stunning. This extraordinary final production uncut sheet is the finest of only TWO known examples. The other known sheet was last sold at auction in 2008 for $90000. Without question this is among the rarest and most desirable uncut sheets the hobby has ever seen.
