Though his big league career didn’t take off until he was 31, the Brooklyn ace led the NL in strikeouts for seven straight summers. His best year was 1924 when he won 28 games and was voted the NL’s MVP over Rogers Hornsby who hit .424 that year! When his 1933 Goudey card was issued, Vance was part of the Cardinals bullpen where he’d become instrumental in the Gas House Gang winning the 1934 World Series.
