Although today he is remembered for his reprehensible racist heckling of Jackie Robinson while manager of the Phillies in 1947, back in the early 1930s Ben Chapman was one of the best all-around players in the American League. He led the AL in stolen bases for three consecutive years and was voted to the very first All-Star Game in 1933. He won a World Series with the Yankees in 1932 but was traded after Joe DiMaggio joined the team in 1936. Chapman played outfield for several teams before re-inventing himself as a pitcher during the war years. His batting pose in the 1933 Goudey set is one of the most attractive cards in the set, and this example is one of the best in the hobby today. The colors are exceptional color, and the back is clean. It has been graded a PSA NM-MT 8 and only one has been graded higher.
