The quartet of Ruth cards from the 1933 Goudey set are his most widely collected cards. The #149 "red Ruth" is among the scarcest and most hotly pursued of the coveted quartet and this particular specimen is instantly distinguishable as an elite representation of its type.
Intense vivid color coupled with flawless registration give this card uncommon and tremendous eye appeal. Ruth's Yankee pinstripes are distinct and solid and his red background is so vibrant that it seems to project from its surface. The image is framed by white borders that are of fairly even dimensions. This is a delightfully crisp and perfectly clean piece both front and back. Within the range of quality that PSA's strict Near Mint-Mint 8 assessment allows we comfortably rate this gem near the upper end. This is one of the most popular baseball cards from the 1930's and it is among the most visually grand of all baseball cards from any era. All of the best attributes of Goudey's #149 "red Ruth" are embodied here in their finest form.
