When Leo Durocher was traded from Cincinnati to St. Louis in 1933, he became the final piece that made up the famous Cardinals “Gas House Gang” team that won the 1934 World Series. Though he wasn’t a threat with the bat (Babe Ruth called him “The All-American Out”), Leo was both a great defensive shortstop and a fiery competitor who inspired his teammates to excel. He’d later go on to manage the Dodgers, Giants, Cubs, and Astros and was enshrined in Cooperstown in 1994. His intensity comes across in his 1933 Goudey portrait, this example with its sharp colors and clean back rating is a PSA NM 7.
