In 1933, the Rittenhouse Candy Co., based in Philadelphia, released a unique and highly sought-after playing card set. This set consisted of 52 cards, each featuring a different subject. Among these subjects were 46 individual players, with a few players having multiple cards in the set. The cards came in various colors, including red, orange, blue, and green. However, the most valuable card in the set is the one featuring the legendary Babe Ruth. One particular card from this set, known as the "King of Clubs," is a rare find. Encased in a PSA Authentic holder, this specific card is one of only 13 known examples in existence. The "King of Clubs" card showcases a unique blue-tinted portrait of Babe Ruth within the central clubs image. Despite some toning and soiling, the card still retains its fine aesthetics, with Ruth's image shining through. On the flipside of the card, one can find the letter "Y." This letter was part of a prize redemption promotion offered by Rittenhouse Candy Co., where collectors who managed to collect all the letters spelling out "RITTENHOUSE CANDY CO." could exchange their cards for a special toy premium. The Rittenhouse Candy Co.'s 1933 playing card set is a true collectors' gem, with the Babe Ruth "King of Clubs" card standing out as a rare and valuable piece. Its unique blue tint, combined with its historical significance and limited availability, make it a highly sought-after item among collectors and baseball enthusiasts alike.
