Jimmy McLarnin was an Irish born boxer who emigrated to Canada at the age of 3 and took up boxing at the age of 10. McLarnin compiled a 54-11-3 record from 1923 to 1936. 21 of his wins were by knockout while only 1 of his defeats was by knockout. McLarnin had incredible power in both fists but had trouble getting into fights due to his youthful appearance. For this reason he was also known as the Baby faced assassin. In 1996 McLarnin was voted 5th best welter weight of all time by Ring magazine. A c.1945 image of a celebratory gathering at the Helms museum shows McLarnin seated with Paul Helms Bill Schroder and Jack Dempsey among others. Also presented here is a c.1950's photo of McLarnin's robe on display at the Helms museum along with a Gene Tunney robe (see lot 102) and other boxing artifacts. McLarnin's robe is believed to have been donated to the HAF directly by McLarnin himself. The green Everlast satin robe shows light to moderate wear with signs of aging mostly in the color fading. Satin material remains in excellent shape. Overall the robe comes largely as-issued and problem-free.

Includes a Letter of Provenance from the Helms Athletic Foundation/LA84 Collection.
