Offered is a spectacular 37-1/2" 35.9-oz. H&B game bat that was used by "Bucketfoot Al" during the 1933-34 period. The Hillerich & Bradsby pre model Al Simmons bat is un-cracked and shows evidence of heavy use. Many ball marks ball stitch impressions and cleat marks are visible on the right left and back barrel. There is a light coat of pine tar on the handle. On the right barrel in fountain pen are the signatures of Al Simmons Jimmy Dykes and Mule Haas. To our knowledge this is the only A1 Simmons game used bat that has been autographed by Simmons. Although this Simmons professional model bat pre-dates the appearance of model numbers on Louisville Slugger bats a review of Simmons Professional Bat Ordering Record (PBOR) on file at Louisville Slugger Inc reveals that the model is referred to as 'His 2-20-33'. Al Simmons was one of baseball's most consistent hitters between the years 1924 and 1938 capturing two batting titles and leading the Philadelphia Athletics to three pennants and two World Championships in that span. Simmons eventually retired in 1944 with 2927 hits and a lifetime .334 batting average 20th all-time. Excellent usage traits fine display quality and the added dimension of being autographed makes this one of the premier Al Simmons bats in the hobby.

Includes a LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA (Grade GU9.5)
