The late Dorothy Poynton was an American diver who competed in three straight Summer Olympics and medalled four times including back-to-back 10-Meter Platform golds at the 1932 Los Angeles and 1936 Berlin Games. Born in 1915 she was the youngest Olympian at 13 years old to ever medal when she took silver on the 3-Meter Springboard at the 1928 Amsterdam Games. This lot features Boynton's 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games 1st Place diploma she was awarded along with her gold medal for winning the 10-Meter Platform event.

The diploma measuring 24” wide by 19” high reads “XTH OLYMPIAD - Los Angeles 1932 - Dorothy Poynton - Diving" and includes facsimile signatures of both presidents from The Organizing Committee and The International Olympic Committee. It comes in great condition laminated to a thick wooden backing and is ready for wall display. It should be noted that Olympic diplomas -- no matter how high the finisher -- from early pre-war Games are extremely scarce first place finishers obviously being the most coveted. The last 1932 L.A. Olympics first place diploma we listed (American Pole Vaulter Bill Miller) sold for nearly $2000 in our Fall 2017 Auction.
