A scarce and unusual format from the early 1930s, this 1931 W517 strip card presents a striking sepia-toned portrait of Babe Ruth in his New York Yankees cap and uniform, captioned "Babe Ruth, Yankees A.L." with the card number 20 displayed within a small circle at the lower left. The hand-cut nature typical of the W517 issue is evident along the card's edges, with rounding and minor loss to the lower right corner consistent with this scarce strip card format. The portrait retains strong sepia contrast and a clear, legible image of Ruth despite its age and handling history.

 

The reverse is blank, as issued. W517 cards were sold in uncut strips and individually hand-cut by retailers, resulting in significant condition variation across surviving examples. PSA has designated this example Authentic, reflecting its genuine period issue despite condition limitations. A desirable, affordable entry point into vintage Ruth card collecting.
