Slot and vending machines during the 1920s were manufactured by the Chicago-based "Mills" company which drew worldwide acclaim for its unique machines including one that automatically played the violin and piano. As baseball soared in popularity the amusement magnate appealed to the masses with a less-cultured device the "PLAY BALL" slot machine. Offered here is a restored example of that 1929 counter top favorite. This 24" tall wooden slot machine features a crafted metallic facing on which a baseball-themed design invites all players. For one nickel a pull of the lever on the right side sends the three-tiered images into a spinning motion. The colorful "awards" list appears just below listing five different types of "Home Runs" highlighted by one that goes "OVER THE FENCE." There are manual settings for "RUNS" "INNINGS" and "OUTS." An incredible working slot machine that has been fully restored to its original condition that works as if it was new.
