From one of the greatest powerhitters of the pre-WWII era comes an iconic Type 1 photograph of Lou Gehrig posing for the International Newsreel "How Gehrig, Leading Home Run Hitter of the American League Swings at Ball." This is one of the finest images of Gehrig we've ever handled. Gehrig made a career out of regularly smashing the ball out of the park and the iron horse did it with precision and consistency. Gehrig's legacy extends far beyond his accolades at the plate and baseball fans will always hold a place in their hearts due to his untimely and tragic death at the hands of ALS at the young age of 37. This 7-1/2" x 9-1/2" Original News Service Photo for International Newsreel exhibits the Iron Horse's grip and undeterred focus on his craft. The black and white photo taken on July 2, 1929 presents NM with extreme clarity. There are no obtrusive flaws apparent with only some slight creases found near the left and right bottom quadrants, the top left corner and one small 1/2" crease in the center. Most of the imperfections are only noticeable in the right lighting and do not hinder the importance of this extremely well preserved and high quality photograph of one of the best power hitters to ever play the game. The reverse includes some date stamps and a caption affixed that reads and spells Gehrig's name incorrectly as follows, "HOW GERHIG, LEADING HOME RUN HITTER OF THE AMERICAN LEAGUE SWINGS AT BALL" & "NEW YORK...LOU GERHIG, YANKEE PLAYER, AND LEADING HOME RUN HITTER IN AMERICAN LEAGUE DEMONSTRATES HIS STANCE AND SWING. HE IS SHOWN HALF WAY THRU SWING THAT HAS GARNERED HIM 21 HOME RUNS THIS SEASON SO FAR" & Dated "E-7/2-29" Encapsulated and Authenticated by PSA/DNA TYPE 1 and is also accompanied bya full LOA from PSA/DNA which can be found by scrolling the images on the listing.
