Lloyd Waner was a rookie in 1927 when he joined his brother Paul on the Pittsburgh Pirates. The two siblings made headlines coast to coast as they hammered opposing National League pitching throughout the summer of 27. Paul would hit .380 while Lloyd hit .355 as the Pirates won the National League pennant. The two brothers would be mainstays of the Pirates lineup for more than a decade, and both have a plaque in Cooperstown. As one of the budding stars of the day, Lucky Strike chose Lloyd to be part of their famous 1928 ad campaign. This 10 x20 trolly car advertising panel features the young Pirates outfielder leaping for a fly ball before the Lucky Strike bullseye logo. The golden type and Waner gleaming white uniform leaps off the dark stadium green background. The piece exhibits some surface wear, most noticeably near Waner outstretched arm and along the right side of the panel, though none of this detracts from the bright colors and dynamic graphics. The visually stunning piece of 1920s advertising art has been professionally matted and framed, augmenting the dazzling display quality of the piece.
