George Wright and his brother Harry were at the epicenter of the development of professional baseball. Hired by a group of Cincinnati businessmen who in 1869 had the crazy idea to sponsor a baseball team of paid players George Wright was made captain of the team that would be known to time as the Red Stockings and prompted them through almost two years of undefeated games played all across the nation. Wright then moved to Boston where he led the Red Stockings (now the Atlanta Braves) in the first National Association League season in 1871. Wright was a true sportsman in every sense of the word excelling in cricket golf and tennis in addition to baseball. After he retired he stayed involved with the game serving on various historical commissions that traced the game’s early development and even acted as an umpire during the 1912 Olympics baseball exhibition. This matted display features a "June 12 1928" dated cut signature in 7-8/10 black ink (with his Boston MA address inscribed) of this baseball pioneer mounted alongside a postcard of Wright's Hall of Fame plaque that hangs in Cooperstown. Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA.
