Not to be lost in the "Yahtzee Box" candy card collection are these three tough "little" cards (each around 1-3/8" by 2-1/2") from a rather dead period of releases in the Roaring Twenties. Hall of Famer Eppa Rixey, nicknamed "Jeptha" for his southern drawl, pitched for the Phillies and Reds over a 22-year period (1912-33) and stood as the winningest southpaw in NL history with 266 victories until Warren Spahn passed him up in 1959. His 1927 York Caramel E210 (Series of 60) "Type 1" #16 card in this lot is well-centered with two creases and rates GD in our opinion. His nickname is misspelled ("Jepha"). The back has the PA candy company printed with "Six feet five and one half inches. There were giants in those days." Only two Rixey #16 cards have ever been encapsulated by PSA (GD 2 and VG-EX 4).

From the 1923 W572 (Hand Cut) set is fellow Hall of Famer Billy Southworth and Marty McManus. The latter was a productive infielder and played 14 of his 15 MLB seasons in the AL for the Browns, Tigers and Red Sox, retiring with a .289 lifetime average and nearly 2,000 hits. Southworth was a fine ballplayer in his day, but earned his place in the Hall as the legendary skipper of the St. Louis Cardinals. The team names of each player are printed very faintly below their image: "STL AL" for McManus and "Boston NL" for Southworth. Each card measures rates GD/VG with light creasing and surface wear. In the PSA Pop Report, a grand total of eight Southworths show up, with five of those "Authentic"; there are only four authenticated McManus cards, two "Auth." and one VG 3. So, these could rank very high if graded.
