In 1927 the United States Golf Association hosted the Open Championship at Oakmont Country Club outside Pittsburgh for the first time.In 2016 the U.S. Open was played there for the ninth time and was won by Dustin Johnson. 91 years ago when a patron used this ticket to watch the tournament unfold it was "The Silver Scot" Tommy Armour who defeated Harry Cooper in an 18-hole playoff to claim his only U.S. Open title and the first of his three major championships. This 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" vase-shaped ticket to the opening round on Thursday June 14th is to our knowledge the only known example to surface from any round at the '27 Open. This same ticket was previously sold at auction in 2014 for over $3600. Despite a vertical crease down the middle (more pronounced on the backside) and some ruffled edge wear it retains its attractiveorange/brown coloring and original string attachment to earn a strong VG-EX/EX designation in our book.
