The 1927 New York Yankees are widely recognized as the greatest team in baseball history, if not all of sports. A year after a disappointing loss to St. Louis in the 1926 World Series, the Yankees came back with a vengeance. With a potent offensive lineup dubbed "Murderer's Row", the vaunted Yankees outscored their opponents by nearly 400 runs. With a 110-44 record, the Bronx Bombers ran away with the American League pennant, winning by 19 games. The World Series match-up against Pittsburgh was already a foregone conclusion. While credit is due in large part to Ruth, Gehrig and their fellow bombers, the 1927 Yankees pitching staff was equally imposing. Deserving of the moniker "Moundsmen Murderer's Row" their fearsome rotation included Waite Hoyt, Herb Pennock, Urban Shocker and closer Wilcy Moore all of whom finished with at least eighteen wins apiece. Dutch Ruether and George Pipgras also posted double digits in wins. As a unit, their team ERA was an impressive 3.20. This original vintage photograph features seven members of what is arguably the greatest pitching staff of all-time. Standing shoulder to shoulder in their pinstripes are Pipgras, Moore, Reuther, Hoyt, Pennock, Shocker and Shawkey. Each subject has signed across their uniforms in uniform black fountain ink, averaging 7/10. The period 8” by 10" photo appears EX-MT with no notable surface faults. It has been mounted to a thin cardboard backing but retains its original full dimensions and glorious presentation quality.
