This gorgeous Babe Ruth pencil signature, cut from a larger document or album page and dated 1927, has been authenticated and graded a near-perfect Mint 9 by PSA/DNA. The accompanying 1927 date adds important contextual value, placing the signature squarely within Ruth's legendary 60-homer season with the 1927 "Murderer's Row" Yankees. This single-season home run record stood for 34 years until Roger Maris finally passed it with his famous 61 in '61. Ruth's 1927 campaign is still regarded as one of the greatest individual seasons by an athlete, capped off by a World Series title that put the Bronx Bombers in the conversation as perhaps the greatest sports team ever assembled.
PSA/DNA's authentication of vintage Ruth signatures involves close comparison against documented exemplars, and a Mint 9 grade on a dated period example represents one of the highest-graded Ruth signatures available to collectors. Pencil autographs of Ruth and Lou Gehrig remain quite scarce in the hobby, and this one ranks up there among the best we've ever laid eyes on.
