Much to the consternation of Red Sox fans, the great Yankees teams of the 1920s were built with former Boston stars: Waite Hoyt, Carl Mays, Joe Bush, Ernie Shore, Herb Pennock, and of course, Babe Ruth. Even the Red Sox’s former manager, Ed Barrow, jumped ship and became the Yankees GM. Of these, Ruth, Hoyt, Pennock and Barrow would become Hall of Famers. While each of those players brought great value to the Murderer’s Row Yankees, pitcher Herb Pennock provided a solid veteran starter upon which the team could build their rotation. Pennock had won a World Championship with Connie Mack’s A’s in 1912 and another with the Red Sox in 1915 before being traded to New York. Wearing the pinstripes, Pennock would win 162 games for the Yankees, helping the team win four World Championships and seven pennants while becoming the best left-hander of the 1920s. As the Yankees ace, it was only natural that his teammate Babe Ruth would name him to his 1926 All-America Team. This annual award was begun in 1924 by Ruth’s agent Christy Walsh and honored the best player at each of the nine positions, chosen by a panel of 10 sportswriters from each of the big league cities and chaired by the Babe himself. In 1926 Pennock won 23 games and two more in the World Series against the Cardinals. For his career year, Ruth made him the All-America Team’s starting pitcher. The 14.5” x 19” ornate certificate features an outstanding “Geo. H. “Babe” Ruth” signature and comes with a letter of provenance from the Pennock family and a full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.  A visually attractive piece that honors one of the best southpaws of the game’s Golden Era signed by it’s biggest star, Babe Ruth. Accompanied by a full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.
