Beautiful shot of Rogers Hornsby, the greatest right-handed hitter of the era during his second Triple Crown season. Taken on the field at Cubs Park in Chicago in 1925, the photo shows Hornsby just after replacing Branch Rickey as the St. Louis Cardinals playing manager. He went on to hit .403 with 39 home runs and 143 RBIs to take home the coveted Triple Crown. The next year he would lead the Cardinals to a World Series Championship over Babe Ruth's New York Yankees. The Type 1 photo measures 8.5” x 6.5” and shows wonderful depth and contrast. The reverse of the photo has the original caption slug, “Filed Jun12 1925” date stamp and Underwood & Underwood stamping. A great relaxed batting pose of one of the game’s greatest hitters. Encapsulated Type 1 by PSA/DNA.
