Very few personally owned pieces of memorabilia from the gridiron legend Knute Rockne have ever reached the auction block and certainly none with greater proof of authenticity. Rockne personal cigar humidor fashioned in the motif of a football bears labeling inside that details its origin. It reads "Knute Rockne's Souvenir All America Football Dinner Appreciation to my Newspaper Friends and in Honor of Knute Rockne Tad Jones Glenn Warner Fielding Yost and my Other Associates Christy Walsh Hotel Commodore New York Nov. 30 1925." Applied to the wooden base of this unique keepsake is a brass plaque with the engraving "Knute K. Rockne Compliments of Christy Walsh." Further and definitively identifying this humidor as Rockne's personal model is an accompanying image of Rockne holding it. The signatures of Rockne Tad Jones Glenn Pop Warner and Fielding Yost that are boldly visible on the humidor in the image are quite a bit lighter now (2-3/10) but are still legible with each signer adding the school he represents (Notre Dame Stanford and Yale respectively) after his autograph. Some of the lacing on the exterior has deteriorated but otherwise the humidor remains quite well preserved and functional. An outstanding Rockne memento with ideal photo documentation. Includes a full LOA from PSA/DNA.
