George Herman “Babe” Ruth was an American original, baseball’s first great slugger and the most celebrated athlete of all-time. He was the prototype of the modern superstar whose unparalleled feats on the field were only equaled in magnitude by his gargantuan appetite for life away from the diamond and his boundless charisma. Ruth’s abilities and personality made him a tremendous drawing card throughout the league and accordingly, the highest-paid player of his era. He was the first player to hit 30, 40, 50, and 60 home runs in a season, and his slugging style forever changed the way baseball was played. In the field of sports memorabilia, acquiring a bat that was once wielded by the great Bambino is considered a milestone achievement.

Presented here is a classic Babe Ruth game bat from the era that is most desired by collectors. These 36 inch 40 plus ounce bats from the early to mid-1920's are 'Ruthian' in every respect. These are the bats that Ruth used to transform baseball from the slap hitting Dead Ball era to the age of the home run. This Babe Ruth professional model bat represents his personal 'R2' model. This is the same model as the famed Yankee Stadium First Home Run bat sold by SCP Auctions in 2004 for $1.25 million. The length and weight of the bat, together with the C-5A center brand, allow us to pinpoint the ordering date to the 1925 season. This was the last year that Ruth ordered the R2 model. The massive 44.2 ounce club shows extensive use, though judging by the many abrasions that were on the surface of the barrel, it appears the bat has seen some post-Ruth use outside of Major League Baseball. The bat retains excellent display quality, and endures as a glorious monument to the “Sultan of Swat.” It’s era of usage, prodigious size, and remarkable state of preservation will make this a cornerstone piece in even the finest collection of baseball treasures. Includes a LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA (Grade GU7.5).
