This rare 1924 Paris Olympic Games Welcome Home badge was issued to U.S. Soccer star Harry Farrell a forward on the 1924 U.S. Men's National Team. His father John Farrell was one of the earliest pioneers in developing soccer in the U.S. in the late 1800's. The ornate hexagonal medallion 3 x 5 cm is made of gilt/sterling silver and is gold-plated for a beautiful finish. It is attached to a red white and blue ribbon for an overall length of 9 cm.  Obverse engraved from top "1924 - PRESENTED BY HON. JOHN F. HYLAN - ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK TO THE VICTORIOUS ATHLETES ON THEIR RETURN FROM THE OLYMPIC GAMES AT PARIS FRANCE." Design shows victorious male athlete in early uniform holding laurel branch. Reverse engraved "HENRY C. FARRELL"" with "D&C" (Dieges & Clust) and "STERLING" on bottom. Each Olympian in NYC area was issued one of these upon their return home. Overall the badge comes in NM-MT condition. Very hard to find the ribbon with the medallion let alone intact like it is.
