The illustrious baseball career of Chicago Cubs second baseman Johnny Evers came to a close at the end of the 1924 season following a short-lived stint as manager of the Chicago White Sox. With induction into the Hall of Fame still 22 years in his future Evers (along with his wife and son) seized the opportunity -- and his newly found free time -- to "see the world." Offered here is the document that enabled the family to do just that: the original passport of John J. Evers issued on October 2 1924. The 8-3/4" x 11-5/8" document reads "The United States of America Passport / Department of State" at the top with its partially typed contents identifying the holder as "John J. Evers" and authorizing access to any country. The passport is signed twice by Evers once on the front in the space reserved for the "Signature of Bearer" (he has also penned "+ Wife + Son) and once across his sepia-toned photo. He gives his occupation as "base ball player." His scriptings rate about "8" strength and clarity and the well-traveled document reveals standard compacting folds and presents at the apparent EX condition level overall. Matted with the passport's 4-1/2" x 6-1/4" cover and a 4-1/4" x 6-1/2" image of Evers from his playing days to total dimensions of 16-3/4" x 21". Evers passed away in 1947. Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA.
