Presented here is a histortically significant circa 1924 photograph of University of Michigan track star DeHard Hubbard as he sails through the air in the long jump. Dated about the time he won the gold meda at the 1924 Paris Summer Olympics, it is reported on the back that he won the men's broad jump for the United Stated on a badly sprained ankle and had to be carried off the track! He was the first ever African American to win an Olympic gold medal in an individual event for the U.S. team. Thus, he is one of the most important and underrated track & field athletes in history.

Images of Hubbard are incredibly rare and this is one of his finest in the hobby, issued by the Keystone View Company and stamped on the back with a nice paper caption as well. It appears that this photo of Hubbard was taken at a collegiate meet and then used by the press during the 1924 Paris Olympics to announce his triumph. Condition and quality are both outstanding. The 6.5" by 8.5" photo is encapsulated PSA/DNA Type 1 and comes with a separate full LOA.
