George (Highpockets) Kelly spent most of his major league career (1915-1932) with the New York Giants. Known as Highpockets because his 6' 4 stature made him taller than most of his peers Kelly was a favorite of manager John McGraw. The Hall of Fame first baseman was not only one of the top defensive players of his era but also one of the National League's top run producers. Kelly averaged 18 home runs and 110 RBI per year between 1920 and 1925 leading the Giants to four pennants and two World Championships over that span.

This 34 inch 36 ounce Hillerich & Bradsby George Kelly professional model bat dates to 1922-1925. It exhibits evidence of heavy use with a handle crack that has been repaired. Checking (grain swelling) from repeated ball contact on the back barrel has also been repaired. Many ball marks are visible on the right and left barrel. Cleat marks can be seen on the left barrel. 'FS' with an 'X' is carved into the knob. Recorded lengths and weights for George Kelly during his Major League career are between 35 and 38 inches and 35 to 40 ounces. In addition to the recorded lengths there are several orders during his career that have no specified length. The handle knob and barrel dimensions of the subject bat appear to be those of 'His 5-11-21' model aka 'His Old George Kelly' which was later vault marked and designated the 'K9' model. PSA/DNA concludes its accompanying letter by stating "After a thorough examination of this George Kelly professional model bat and its player use characteristics it is our opinion the bat is authentic and was manufactured for Kelly during the referenced labeling period. The bat's use by Kelly cannot be confirmed." (The bat's use by Kelly cannot be confirmed due to the different initials carved in the knob.) George "Highpockets" Kelly finished his career with a .297 lifetime average 148 home runs and 1020 RBI. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1973. LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA.
