In 1921 in the Second Annual Armistice Day Football Game held between the Army’s Ninth Corps Area and the Navy’s Pacific Coast Fleet the midshipmen bombarded the Cadets 24-0. The shutout took place in Pasadena California at the American Legion’s Pasadena Post No. 13. This lot features the impressive trophy that Navy earned by virtue of its powerful gridiron performance.
Standing 12 inches tall the exquisitely designed sterling silver (hallmarked on bottom) trophy weighs close to 2 1/2 lbs. (1076 grams to be exact) is engraved across the front with the following vital information: “ARMISTICE DAY 1921 PASADENA CALIFORNIA SECOND ANNUAL FOOTBALL GAME Ninth Corps Area Vs. Pacific Coast Fleet Auspices Pasadena Post No. 13 AMERICAN LEGIONSCORE ARMY 0 NAVY 24.” Tarnishing is evident throughout the trophy although the engraved region remains in near pristine condition.
Includes Letter of Provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
